Peugeot 308 CC: a "5-star" coupé cabriolet

With 36 points out of a possible total of 37 for head-on and side impacts, the 308 CC not only proves it to be a true successor in a famous lineage but also guarantees the highest level of protection for its occupants.

In terms of rankings, this result places the 308 CC in the top 10 scores ever achieved since EuroNCAP tests first started, and ranks it as the best Coupé-Cabriolet on the market in terms of adult occupant protection.

This very fine performance owes nothing to pure chance.

As the latest creation in a long tradition of Coupé-Cabriolets, and in a vehicle segment where Peugeot is currently the world leader with over 650,000 units produced to date, the 308 CC benefits from all the advantages of the 308 vehicle platform, itself the latest word in terms of safety, as well as Peugeot's technical feedback-based experience and incomparable manufacturing expertise in this vehicle niche.

By way of illustration, we can point to the following elements that contribute to achieving this high score:

- A structure designed with built-in strength to withstand and dissipate the energy generated by head-on and side impacts, and notably via a "triple frontal load path.

- Innovative and intelligent methods of restraint with front seats incorporating a side thorax/pelvis airbag and, as a worldwide first, a side head airbag that guarantees effective protection for all body's vital parts irrespective of the body position at the moment of impact.

- The telescopic rear roll bars with pyrotechnic triggers that deploy in a few milliseconds in the event of a roll-over risk being detected to create a protective passenger cell in conjunction with the windscreen pillars that have been specially strengthened for this purpose.

Children have not been overlooked in the development of 308 CC. The three-star rating for child safety places the 308 CC on the category's winners' podium, with even tougher safety criteria.

Accordingly, the Coupé Cabriolet benefits from an exceptional level of protection in genuine accident situations, as well as from Peugeot's renowned savoir-faire in the area of active safety. The 308 CC becomes the eighth successive Peugeot marque vehicle to join the "5-star" club in terms of occupant protection.

Equipped with these advantages in addition to a successful concept and high quality equipment levels, the 308 CC is awaiting to be discovered, in perfect safety, as soon as the first ray of sunlight appears.

KTM: 950 Super Enduro R Erzberg Edition

942 cc displacement, 98 hp, 90 Nm torque and 250/255 mm suspension travel front and rear – these are the ingredients needed to scale the Erzberg in 2009. This year the "iron giant" can be attacked with one of just 100 units of a for this event tailor-made, strictly limited special edition of the 950 Super Enduro R.

The most striking element on the 950 Super Enduro R Erzberg Edition is the solely for this motorcycle created Erzberg graphics. But not just the on the spoiler illustrated trail, which has to be raced in the "Iron Road Prologue" at high speed, strikes the observer’s eye at a glance; in case the owner strives for having a lightweight bike, he simply disassembles the standard mufflers and puts the extra-light Acrapovics on, which belong to the Erzberg Edition as well as handguards protecting the hands of the rider or high-quality carbon covers preventing the ignition cap and the clutch cap from being scratched. Adjustable footrests guarantee each rider an ideal position for chasing the leader’s prologue time and an already quite frequently required bar pad provides protection around the triple clamps. In case the knobs of the standard tires had a hard time on the Erzberg, the rider simply mounts the additional pair of Metzeler Enduro 3 tires in order to proceed the ride on this extraordinary and strictly limited KTM bike.

Everyone who tastes blood right now and desires to have the Erzberg Edition in one’s garage should order the bike with the favoured number (range 1 to 100) latest on February 13th 2009. Following the motto "First come, first serve", this exclusive special edition can be ordered as of now at every authorised KTM dealer.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

Consumer Guide's Impressions of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Chevrolet's ponycar comes back in early 2009 as a coupe that could flip its lid by the end of the year. It's a great nostalgia trip, but will there be a market for it?

What We Know About the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

As it was then, so it is now. The Camaro, born more than 40 years ago as Chevrolet's reply to the pioneering Ford Mustang, is coming out of retirement (since 2002) for a new fight with the namesake ponycar. It's set to bow for 2010 in two coupe models--V6 and V8. The V6 cars will be offered in LS or LT trim, and the V8 is dubbed SS. The LT and SS models will be available with a RS appearance package that includes HID headlamps with integrated halo rings, a rear spoiler, specific taillamps, and 20-inch wheels. Convertible versions join up about nine months later. Chevrolet recently confirmed these plans after splashy concept previews at the 2006 and '07 Detroit Auto Shows. Recalling the days when the Big Three were the big players Dodge revived its Nixon-era Challenger (1970-74) for 2008.

General Motors decided to bring back Camaro when the redesigned 2005 Mustang fast proved a hot seller. But Mustang sales have lately cooled, despite the addition of potent pump-primers like the Shelby GT500. Blame record gas prices and renewed public concern over what thirsty vehicles do to the environment. Ford Motor Company's many well-publicized travails are another factor. All this leads some industry-watchers to think the new Camaro could end up chasing a vanishing market, especially as GM still has troubles of its own. Nevertheless, the project is a go. And though GM has reportedly hit the pause button on several other new rear-wheel-drive cars, it's unlikely to delay this one after two years of making so much noise about it.

Convertible or coupe, the reborn Camaros will be much like the concepts, only less exaggerated. Factory installed wheels, for instance, will be no larger than 20 inches max, versus the show cars' 21s and 22s. Trim and paint will be toned down a bit, but Chevy has said they are offering 10 body colors. Otherwise, styling will be the concept's blend of today's Chevy Corvette and cues from the 1969 Camaro, resulting in a more-modern look than either the current Mustang or Dodge Challenger. The new Camaros should also hew closely to concept dimensions. That means about 7.5 inches more wheelbase than the 2002 models, a similar amount trimmed from overall length, and about 5.5 inches more width. These changes should produce a roomier four-seat cockpit, though space in back (and in the trunks) will remain tight.

Also per ponycar tradition, the new Camaros will offer a budget-friendly V6 engine and two performance-oriented V8s. Models using the V6 employ GM's newer 3.6-liter twincam design with direct injection, as found in the Cadillac CTS. The V8 will be the 6.2-liter base-Corvette engine, but in two flavors. Manual transmission models get the LS3 version that is good for an estimated 422 horsepower. When equipped with the 6-speed automatic, the V8 is dubbed L99. The L99 is fitted with GM's gas-saving Active Fuel Management cylinder-deactivation, and should put out 400 ponies. If gas prices keep rising, GM's Bob Lutz has suggested the company may look at powering the Camaro with turbocharged 4-cylinder engines. If Chevy decides to offer the four, it might not be available at the start of production. In addition, the latest buzz says an ultra-performance Z28 version might appear for 2011. It would use a version of the supercharged 6.2-liter "LSA" V8 from the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V with horsepower in the 480-500 range. At launch, all Camaro engines team with six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic transmissions. Four-wheel ABS disc brakes, traction control, and stability control will be standard on all Camaros. Coupes will have front thorax side airbags and curtain side airbags. Ragtops may come with jumbo seat-mounted front side airbags providing both torso and head protection.

We said "ragtops" for a reason. For the sake of affordability as well as tradition, Camaro convertibles will retain a folding soft top. A trendy hideaway hard-shell roof would have cost too much for GM's price target, and might have caused reliability and production headaches. As on the concept, the top powers up or down from a flip-up panel behind the cockpit-no need for a fiddly flexible tonneau to look your best, as on the last drop-top Camaro.

A Notable Feature of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro coupes and convertibles will be built at GM's plant in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, which has long ranked high in independent audits of vehicle quality, among the best in North America. Let's hope that record continues with the new Camaros.

Buying Advice for the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Convertibles never sell as well as sister coupes, and the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro convertible should be no exception. Even so, it's no more likely to be a future collectible than the fixed-top Camaro, especially if demand comes close to GM's projected 100,000-unit yearly total. And even if that proves optimistic, resale values of all new Camaros will probably depreciate like those of any volume-production new car. Buy one to drive and enjoy, but don't expect to make money on it in the foreseeable future.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro Release Date: Dealers should have new Camaro coupes by March 2009. Convertibles could appear by the end of 2009.

First Test Drive: We think media previews will be staged in late fall or early winter of 2008.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro Prices: The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro V6 LS coupe will start at $22,995, with the V8-powered SS coupe starting at $30,995. Convertibles will cost more, but we aren't sure what the price premium will be.

Most Expensive Luxury Car: Maybach Exelero

In 2000, Ferdinand Piech, chairman of Volkswagen announce that their Bugatti Veyron will go into production and will be the world's fastest, most powerful and most expensive car in history, at least for a road legal car.

It indeed became what he said, it is the world's fastest, most powerful road legal car, but it already its title as the world's most expensive car. Last year Bugatti Veyron cost $1.4 million and this year it is already priced at a whopping $2M. Think that's high? Then hold on tight for this video, watch it, fell in love with it, and be shocked at how high its price is.

The car you've just seen is a Maybach Exelero. Perhaps if you are a Jay-Z fanatic, you can recognize that car. It was used in one of his videos.

Maybach Exelero is priced at an enormous amount of $7.8 million! Almost four folds of the Veyron's price. I'm pretty sure I will never even have the chance to ride one of those in my entire life.

Everything in the Exelero's body were all hand assembled. No machines were used in constructing it to achieve the maximum quality. We all know how expensive Maybach cars are, but this one does it to its highest level.

It might not match Veyron's power and speed, but who needs a super speedy car when you have the world's most expensive?

Fastest and Most Expensive Motorcycle: Dodge Tomahawk

Fastest Motorbike

Wanna know what's the fastest motorbike? Well, it's the Dodge Tomahawk, a prototype with an unusual design, featuring the 500 hp (373 kW) 8.3 L V10 engine from the Dodge Viper. The motorcycle has two front wheels and two rear wheels to aid in turning and stability at highest rate of speed.

There's only one problem. This motorcycle cannot be legally driven on public roads. According to a Chrysler official, it was designed as a "rolling sculpture," but since the makers sold nine replicas through Neiman Marcus, for up to $555,000 each, there are a few happy owners who enjoy it on private roads.

The Dodge Tomahawk can reach 60 miles an hour in about 2.5 seconds, and has a theoretical top speed of nearly 400 mph. The weirdest thing about it is the fact that it's got four wheels, two in the front and two in the back, closely packed, which make it look like it rolled out the set of a sci-fi movie. Each pair of wheels is separated by a few inches and each wheel has an independent suspension.

The four wheels were necessary to handle the power from the huge engine, that gives out 500 bhp at 5600 rpm and a huge 525 lb.-ft of torque. The V10 has a 505 cubic inches (8277 cc) displacement and is liquid-cooled, with a maximum speed of 6000 rpm.

It's a true monster, deeper and more rumbling than most motorcycles, that can only drink 93 octane unleaded premium gasoline.

According to the official specs 0-60 mph times have been estimated at 2.5 seconds, with an estimated top speed of 300+ mph. But there are also reports that the top speed is 676 km/h (about 420 mph). Dodge has expressed interest in one day taking it to the Bonneville salt flats for a speed test, but as of yet has not.

Although most "mortals" will never experience driving such a monster, it's most definitely the ultimate pimped-out ride.

Most Expensive

The most expensive motorcycle in production will cost you at least $250,000. The production is limited to a few hundred models, so you better place your order. The Dodge Tomahawk V10 superbike boasts 8.3 liter engine (505 cubic inch), and the 10 cylinders can bring the bike to a maximum speed of almost 400 mph. The 1500lb bike has an independent 4 wheel suspension and can reach 60 mph in around 2.5 seconds.

Most Expensive Production Car: Bugatti Veyron

What is the most expensive car in the world? The 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe was sold for $8,700,000 in 1987. However, that car and many alike will not be included in this list because it is not available on the market today. It is hard to imagine someone would actually spend 8 million dollars on a car instead of using it for something more productive. However, if you have the money and the opportunity, you will definitely spend a small fraction of it to place a few of these supercars in your garage. Here is the 10 most expensive cars available on the market.

Bugatti Veyron: $1,192,057
. This is by far the most expensive street legal car available on the market today. It is the fastest accelerating car reaching 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. It claims to be the fastest car with a top speed of 253 mph+. However, the title for the fastest car goes to the SSC Ultimate Aero which exceed 253 mph pushing this car to 2nd place for the fastest car.

Endowed with W16 engine-16 cylinders in 4 banks of 4 cylinders fed by four turbochargers, a dual-clutch DSG computer-controlled manual transmission, the Veyron has a length is 4462 mm (175.8 in) a wide of 1998 mm (78.7 in) and hight of 1206 mm (47.5 in). Counting a sum of 10 radiators, for the engine cooling system, for transmission oil, a heat exchanger for the air to liquid intercoolers, for engine oil etc., the car has a power to weight ratio of 529 bhp/tonne.

If we talk about performance we are dazzled by this supercars power to reach 200 and 300 km/h (124 and 186 mph) in 7.3 and respectively 16.7 seconds, wining for herself the name of the quickest-accelerating production car in history. If we count the fact that the top speed of Bugatti Veyron is 253.2 miles per hour (407.5 km/h), a speed limited electronically to prevent tire damage (it can run even faster) we can understand why this spectacular car must consume 40.4 L/100 km (4.82 mpg) when it`s running at top speed and in city driving 24.1 L/100 km.
A model drove by superstars like Tom Cruise, couldn`t name itself cheap, rising the Bugatti Veyron at least of 1 000 000 dollars, a price that measures it`s quality. Many new designs has been released since 2006, the color might have changed, but the speed and power remain the same.

The world's fastest production car just got faster:

SSC Announces Electric Powertrain and Ultimate Aero EV Specifications

Shelby SuperCars (SSC) released today the details of its revolutionary All-Electric Scalable Powertrain, the AESP. SSC will incorporate its AESP into thecurrent Ultimate Aero to create the Ultimate Aero EV. Being the "World's Fastest Production Car," SSC decided the Ultimate Aero to be the perfect high visibility outlet to demonstrate the capabilities of its new Green powertrain. Directly following the debut of the Ultimate Aero EV, SSC will conduct a live media event to showcase the capabilities of its revolutionary Green powertrain.

SSC will display its AESP in the Ultimate Aero EV in order to prove that electric-powered vehicles will not only match but also provide more linear power (electric motors have 100% torque at 0 RPM) and overall performance than internal combustion cars. The Ultimate Aero EV utilizes a twin motor AESP producing an astounding 1,000 HP and 800 lb-ft of torque enabling it to rocket to 60 mph in a mere 2.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 208 mph. Not only does the Ultimate Aero EV have a range of 150-200 miles on a single charge, but SSC's "Charge on the RunTM" onboard charging system allows for full battery recharges in as little as 10 minutes. SSC's 3-speed automatic transmission transfers the Ultimate Aero EV's power to its wheels and achieves electronically controlled shift times of .24 s. The entire AESP is liquid cooled allowing it to run for extended periods of time at peak performance with no overheating issues.

SSC's Green division, SSC Green, Inc., will provide packaged solutions of its AESP to a wide variety of applications ranging from 200 horsepower for economy and midsize cars, to 500 horsepower for light trucks and SUVs, and up to 1,200 horsepower for delivery trucks, heavy-duty equipment, buses and military vehicles.

SSC expects to roll out its first full-scale, pre-production Ultimate Aero EV in second quarter 2009. Ultimate Aero EV deliveries will start as early as fourth quarter 2009. SSC will pursue the title of "World's Fastest Production Electric Car" and conduct a marketing campaign consisting of international motor shows, magazine articles, TV appearances and live media events. Most importantly, SSC will conduct a live media event at one of America's superspeedways to prove its claims. During this event SSC Founder and Lead Designer, Jerod Shelby, and notable guests will drive laps at high speed pitting only to demonstrate the quick recharge times.

H-D unveils new Dark Custom Sportster

Harley-Davidson is introducing the latest member of its Dark Custom line, the Iron 883.

Since their introduction in 1957, when the modern rebel culture was being bred from restless veterans and hot rod pioneers, Sportster motorcycles became the starting point for many legendary choppers of the 1960s, while also getting pumped up for championship dirt racing and dare devil stunt riding in the 1970s.

The Iron 883 model continues that tradition with responsive handling, smooth clutch effort and durable carbon reinforced drive belt within a minimalist design. Decked in black from fender-to-fender, the new Harley-Davidson Iron 883 motorcycle features an 883 Evolution engine with front fork gaiters, a drag style handlebar and side-mount license plate holder. The Iron 883 starts at $7,899 MSRP.

“The Iron 883 defies the plastic conventions of other motorcycles at this price,” says Mark-Hans Richer, chief marketing officer for Harley-Davidson. “It’s got old school style, a new school ride and gives the owner a platform for creative customization.”

With Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) and performance tuning with a broad torque curve, the Iron 883 delivers plenty of power for the city scene. The pipes on the straight cut short dual exhaust flow the distinctive Harley-Davidson V-Twin sound.

The black chopped rear fender with its combination stop/turn/tail lights shows more of the 150 mm rear tire and black, 13-spoke cast aluminum wheel, while the front tire also rides on a black wheel. The rest of the Iron 883 gets a darker-suited presence with black front forks and fender supports, fuel tank, oil tank cover, belt guard, drag style handlebar and mid mount foot controls.

A one-piece, solo classic seat with a height of 25.3 inches fits the lone rider, while a passenger seat and a backrest in complementing black finishes can be added as accessories. The Iron 883 is available in Black Denim and Brilliant Silver Denim colors.

As the latest of the Harley-Davidson Dark Custom motorcycles, the Iron 883 is stripped down and ripe for custom creativity alongside the Nightster, Night Train, Cross Bones, Fat Bob and Street Bob motorcycles.

Mitsubishi Motors lineup at 2009 Geneva International Motor Show: i MiEV

Tokyo, March 3, 2009
— Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today gave two models their global debut at the 79th Geneva International Motor Show which runs from March 3 through March 15 at the Geneva Palexpo exhibition and conference complex (opening to the general public on March 5).

The i MiEV*1 SPORT AIR concept model gives material shape to MMC's "Drive@earth" global tag-line. The prototype i MiEV concept, meanwhile, is a precursor to the electric vehicle the company will introduce on the European market in 2010.

Also among the 15 vehicles on the MMC stand is the European-built Colt Clear Tec compact model, which boasts premium green performance with CO2 emissions of just 115 g/km, as well as several other European models.

*1 MiEV: Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle
  1. i MiEV SPORT AIR (Show model)

The i MiEV SPORT AIR is a concept for a sporty electric vehicle (hence SPORT) that gives an indication of the direction EVs may take in the future. It also gives shape to MMC's "Drive@earth" tagline announcing the company's intention to deliver fun-to-drive motoring while at the same time placing a new emphasis on environmental issues. The concept model is distinguished by its detachable "clear cutaway" roof panel which brings a wide open feel to the interior (hence AIR) for an exhilarating motoring experience, other features include a second-generation lithium-ion battery module with improved electrodes, while the body uses a number of new weight-reducing technologies.

    (1) Design
i MiEV SPORT AIR takes i MiEV's rear-midship platform and mounts on it a dramatic teardrop-shaped body that tapers towards the rear in a design that yields outstanding aerodynamic performance. The styling also crafts a sporty image by seamlessly integrating an extensive glazed area with the body. Other design features include the front and rear lamp units cleanly styled to produce a three-dimensional look; as well as the "clear cutaway" roof panel, designed to provide an exhilarating motoring experience. The panel incorporates a solar inlay that uses printed circuit board graphics in its design.

Inside, i MiEV SPORT AIR offers a welcoming ambience in a design that uses organic shapes and lighting to create a comfortable and restful space. The wrap-around cockpit design, on the other hand, is styled to alert the driver to the high performance potential of the car the moment he sits behind the wheel. The main controls and switches are all ergonomically grouped around the dial-type shifter, making for more positive location and operation by the driver.

i MiEV SPORT AIR features exterior and interior coloring that takes "Japanese Technology" as its theme in projecting both a friendly, approachable image and high-tech looks. The blue exterior color evokes the image of an exhilarating clear blue sky, while the use of pearl finish paint gives a sheen to the body highlights for an overall appearance that is both friendly and futuristic while also projecting an eco-friendly image. The interior uses a high-contrast color scheme of greyish blue and "greige" (an intermediate color between grey and beige.) With the use of blue illumination for the instruments and interior lighting this two-tone scheme imparts an advanced and high-tech look to the cabin while at the same time producing a relaxing and reassuring atmosphere.

    (2) EV system
i MiEV SPORT AIR employs the same rear-midship layout as i MiEV but uses a more powerful version of the permanent magnet synchronous electric motor that powers the base model, generating 60 kW of power (against i MiEV's 47 kW) and 230 Nm of torque (180 Nm.) The car also exploits its long wheelbase to locate the large-capacity lithium-ion battery system under the floor deck.

    (3) Body
To lower the center of gravity and increase driving stability the main EV system components (battery module, inverter, battery charger) are located as low as possible. The roof panel is made of lightweight plastic to facilitate fitting and removal as well as to further lower the car's center of gravity.

i MiEV SPORT AIR 's modular body structure uses tailgate panels and plastic body to reduce weight around the rear axle where the powertrain and EV system components are installed and thereby achieve an ideal 50:50 front/rear weight distribution. Of hybrid design, the body uses aluminum for the rear suspension and rear body.

    i MiEV SPORT AIR specifications
    Overall length 3650 mm
    Overall width 1600 mm
    Overall height 1520 mm
    Wheelbase 2550 mm
    Track(F/R) 1405 / 1405 mm
    Occupants 4
    Vehicle weight 980 kg
    Motor output 60 kW
    Motor torque 230 N-m
    Battery system 330V lithium-ion
    Drive mode Rear wheel drive
    Tires 175/50R17

  2. i MiEV (prototype)

    (1) Design
With a view to its introduction on the European market, the prototype i MiEV features several changes compared to the i MiEV due to be introduced on the Japanese market in summer 2009. Front and rear tracks have been widened and front and rear overhangs have been extended to provide the higher levels of pedestrian protection expected in Europe as well as better occupant protection in the event of a rear-end shunt. The changes result in a shape that hints strongly at the vehicle's all-round stability.

The interior design features simple, clean styling and with a dial-type shifter and extensive use of circular shapes for the air vents and other elements, creating a welcoming interior space.

The snow-white body and ice-blue interior color derive from a "glacier" theme that was designed to evoke a strong ecological image. The printed circuit board pattern used in the surfaces and motifs adds a high-tech look to the interior.

    (2) Propulsion system
The prototype i MiEV, like i MiEV, uses a unique rear-midship layout which in a gasoline-fueled car places the engine just in front of the rear wheels. In the prototype i MiEV the engine and fuel tank found in an engine-driven vehicle are replaced by the electric motor, inverter, lithium-ion battery module and other EV system components.

The rear-midship layout offers several merits including a long wheelbase that provides more interior space. In addition, the location of the heavier EV system components under the floor deck lowers the center of gravity and realizes greater vehicle stability at higher speeds.

    i MiEV (prototype) specifications
    Overall length 3450 mm
    Overall width 1520 mm
    Overall height 1600 mm
