Once again, F-150 is in a class all by itself. Built Ford Tough. Five-star safety begins with F-150's foundation – its fully boxed frame, which features high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel in key areas throughout the structure. Sitting atop the frame is the passenger cabin, which now includes the use of advanced hydroformed ultra-high-strength steel. Additionally, continuous tubes run from the A-pillar base through the roof rail to form a safety cage around the truck's occupants. And dual hydroformed front tubes, located on either side of the engine bay, are shaped to absorb impacts. More Standard Safety Features Than Any Other Truck. “More” is something you have to get used to with F-150. More capability, more innovation, more comfort. And more standard safety features, including six standard airbags3 in every F-150 model. F-150's standard safety features start with Ford's Personal Safety System,™ which is a suite of protection technologies that work together to help keep you and your passengers safe. It includes an electronic crash-severity sensor, a restraint-control module, a driver's seat-position sensor, dual-stage front airbags,3 a front-passenger sensing system, safety-belt pretensioners, safety-belt energy-management retractors and front outboard safety-belt usage sensors to help protect the driver and front-seat passenger. New for 2009 is the standard Safety Canopy® System, featuring side-curtain airbags3 with state-of-the-art roll-fold technology to help protect front- and rear-outboard passengers during side impacts. These airbags are engineered to stay inflated for several seconds, providing enhanced protection during rollover accidents. Another Ford first in 2009 is a new front seat dual-chamber side airbag† called the “K-bag” because of its unique shape. The K-bag helps provide enhanced protection during side impacts. One handy optional safety feature is the rear view camera. Mounted in the tailgate, the camera provides a real-time image of what's behind you displayed in the rearview mirror, or on the navigation screen in trucks so equipped. Standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®). Standard on every 2009 F-150 model, this state-of-the-art vehicle control system is the only one available with a roll-motion sensor that detects horizontal roll and automatically activates countermeasures to help keep all four wheels on the ground.4 Standard Trailer Sway Control. What good is the industry's best towing capacity if you can't keep that load under control? That's why F-150 comes with standard trailer sway control technology. Working in conjunction with AdvanceTrac®, trailer sway control monitors yaw motion of the truck to detect a swaying trailer. The system then uses precise braking and engine power reduction to help bring you and whatever you're pulling under control.4 An additional engineering feature designed to enhance driveability is the location of the rear shocks, which are mounted outboard to help reduce body lean and control axle motion. 1Class is Full-Size pickups under 8,500 lbs.
